Founder’s Day

2009 WPSNE Founder’s Day and Silent Auction Update

On March 16, 1802, Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States of America, signed the order establishing a military academy at West Point, NY. We learned it as Plebes (however, some of us may have forgotten it). Every year WPSNE holds its own Founder’s Day celebration. This year’s event was an outstanding success!

WPNSE’s 2009 Founder’s Day celebration was an outstanding success. Kevin Anderson, the Director of Athletics, gave a great overview of the state of Army Athletics plus insight of life at West Point. We had over 180 participants including:

  • 105 Members and guests
  • 13 Cadets/Candidates plus their parents

Thanks for everyone’s support of the silent auction. We raised over $9,500. This is a great accomplishment to raise more over $3,000 more than last year in this down economy. It was the best Auction that we have ever conducted. Highlighting this year’s list of donations was a Silver Plate from a 1939 West Point Horse Show generously donated by Mrs. Joanne Patton. As well as two different donations of EMC Club tickets for Red Sox games, one of which was for a Red Sox – Yankees game in June. Thanks to thoses who generously donated (See the donors list below). All money received from the auction was donated to two worthy causes to support our troops: ”Operation Troop Support” and “USA Cares”.
